February 2025
Hello,
I hope you have all been doing ok. It’s been a little while and as per usual time is flying at a rate of knots. It occurred to me that although we are in the 7th year there is still so much to learn and share with you all.
Mid-February and this week marks the start of our season. In these early months we are limited on blooms relying on the outside growing space & Mother Nature, luckily there are some fabulous British growers with the same values that we can support to compliment our own blooms. This enables us to offer a consistent supply throughout the year particularly when we have lulls or crop failures. So if you are wondering why we ask for a 4 working day turnaround on orders this is so we can harvest and source blooms as required.
2024 highlights from last years blooms grown on the farm…
It’s hard to believe that in a months time the current messy, muddy and what looks like an abandoned ship wreck of a farm will be bursting with life. It’s always a daunting time of year juggling the growing, the marketing and the business planning plus all the other jobs but equally exciting when the blooms like this appear…
Sadly last season brought with it some harsh lessons in business, and there was an influx in ordering via private messaging and the non-payment of blooms, some small arrangements but also some large wholesale orders were not paid for and this left a feeling of frustration and upset. As a small business selling flowers at growers prices the margins are minimal so losses like this have a huge impact. Also there was an influx in private messages requesting deals, flowers we don’t grow and requests to grow specifics privately for individuals. Therefore, with the exception of friends & family, all orders will now only be processed through the online shop and all private messages will be directed to the shop. You can view this by clicking on the link here…
The flower shop and wholesale shop is updated regularly. It does sell out quickly at times, particularly the wholesale and we are working on demand. A private message will not make more flowers bloom and we do not source outside for wholesale.
Another eye opener was the review of orders via the online shop, this has not been as positive as hoped and interestingly hardly any orders came from people locally, considering the popularity of the cart this seems a little disjointed. The village cart has always been popular but this is only open subject to availability and is not the main business. The online shop offers local collection as well as delivery plus wholesale and arrangers boxes in peak season, this is the main business and it’s important to communicate this aspect so everyone knows we are operating all year round and will hopefully consider ordering and not waiting for the cart, as this helps us prepare what to cut or order as necessary. That being said, we appreciate all the support received via cart sales and will endeavor to keep this stocked on the weekends.
To help provide an overview of the season ahead we have created a planner…
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and encouragement 🌸
